Welcome to the Nitty Gritty

Welcome to the Nitty Gritty series, friend!

Writers love to write freely; grammar and conventions take the back seat in the early drafts. That’s normal, and I’d highly recommend a healthy, willing suspension of the “perfect draft” grief. No one should get stuck on the perfectionist’s treadmill in the writing process. That’s a horrible place to be!

Some writers make no excuses for turning a blind eye to the nitty-gritty in every draft, and I’m happy for them. (Insert joke about job security here.)

But some—my favorite writers—want to grow in their skills and in the craft. The truth is, a clean draft is something to be proud of. I love knowing a draft is ready for my reader, whether that is the reader I’ve been writing for, a professional in the industry, or someone in the academic field. I’ve written for them all.

Take time to enjoy this new series at Prepared & Polished. I hope you’ll find these posts to be simple and fun.
